When an app already exists on a device—and that app is added to a device's Profile in the Fleetsmith web app, Fleetsmith will keep the app up to date with the enforcement settings chosen. Fleetsmith will not install the same version of an app twice if it already exists on a device.
For paid apps, Fleetsmith admins should consider licensing before upgrading to the latest version.
Always check that your current app license/subscription covers the latest version of an app offered in the Fleetsmith catalog.
If an app distributor releases a new version of an app with a new pricing model, subscription, etc—this change needs to be considered before adding the latest version of the app to a Profile. Sometimes individual licenses do not carry over between major versions.
- Upgrading from Office 2016 to Office 2019
- Upgrading from VMWare 10 to VMware 11
- Upgrading from 1Password 6 to 1Password 7
For example, if you currently have Office 2016 deployed to your devices—and your subscription does not include upgrading to Office 2019—avoid adding Office 2019 to a Profile. If Office 2019 is added to a Profile, Fleetsmith will upgrade Office 2016 to Office 2019 on any devices belonging to the Profile with Office 2019 enforced.
